Ongar Town Council has recently been successful in gaining funding to provide outdoor fitness gym equipment for Ongar residents. The facility at Love Lane Recreation Field was opened by The Rt. Hon. Eric Pickles, Member of Parliament for Brentwood and Ongar, in October. The project was jointly funded by Ongar Town Council, Essex County Council Big Society Fund, Essex Playing Field Association and Essex Environment Trust, The Big Lottery Fund and Awards for All. Additionally, the Ongar Mums Group, who campaigned for the outdoor gym equipment, donated £300 towards the project.
The equipment is suitable for use from age 12 years upwards and by all abilities. The Town Clerk, Aimi Middlehurst, urged residents to take up this free offer.
“The gym is a marvellous way to keep fit and is a fun alternative to traditional gym exercise. The fresh air and great scenery around you are great motivators to be active.”
